Living in Denmark

Denmark lies in northern Europe between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea and consists of the Jutland Peninsula and numerous islands; around 5.8 million people live there. Flat coasts, dunes, fields, and smaller forests shape the landscape. The climate is cool and temperate, with changeable weather, windy coasts, and relatively mild winters. Many people live in well-connected cities or suburbs and get around by bicycle, bus, and train; in rural areas, cars are more important. Copenhagen is densely populated and internationally oriented, while smaller islands and rural regions are quieter. Work, housing, and leisure range from modern service-sector jobs and cultural activities to agriculture, port industries, and community life.
