Living in Cuba
Cuba is an island nation in the Caribbean, south of Florida and west of Haiti. Around 11.3 million people live on the largest island in the Antilles. Long coastlines, fertile plains, limestone landscapes, and forested mountains shape the country. The tropical climate brings warm temperatures, a drier season, and rainfall that varies in intensity by region; the east is often drier than the west. In Havana, many people live in densely built-up neighborhoods and use buses, shared taxis, or bicycles. Outside the capital, distances are longer, and smaller towns are shaped more strongly by agriculture and crafts. Music, dancing, baseball, and gatherings with family and friends are part of leisure in many places. Housing, work, and mobility differ considerably between cities, coastal regions, and rural areas.
