Debt in Cuba

Debt in Cuba can arise from bank credit, business obligations, unpaid bills, installment arrangements, or loans between relatives and acquaintances. Formal consumer credit is more limited than in many market economies, so informal borrowing can be especially important. Every debt should be recorded with its amount, currency, purpose, due pattern, and proof of payment.

Tip

List every Cuban debt in one place and give essential living costs priority before promising a payment. Contact the creditor early if the plan no longer works. Avoid a new loan unless its purpose, full obligation, and repayment source are clear.
