Living in the Central African Republic

The Central African Republic lies in the heart of Africa and is landlocked. It has around 4.7 million people. Tropical rainforests extend across the south, while the climate around Bangui is humid and warm. Further north, they transition into savannas, where a pronounced rainy season alternates with drier months. Many people live in cities in brick or concrete houses, while in rural areas families often live in simple homesteads. Agriculture, trade and services shape daily life. In Bangui, minibuses, taxis and motorcycles are common; outside the capital, routes are often longer and unpaved. Markets, football, music and communal gatherings shape leisure time in many places. The pace of life and living conditions vary considerably by region.
