Living in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is located in Southeastern Europe, borders the Black Sea, and has around 7 million people. The country stretches from the Danubian Plain across fertile lowlands to the Rila, Pirin, and Balkan Mountains. Summers on the coast are warm, while inland areas are generally drier and winters in the mountains are cold and snowy. Many people live in apartments in cities such as Sofia, Plovdiv, or Varna; in rural areas, smaller houses and gardens shape everyday life. Jobs are found especially in services, industry, agriculture, and tourism. Buses and trains connect the regions, while leisure time is spent by the sea, in parks, in the mountains, or with family.
