Bolivian consumers buy goods and everyday services through formal businesses such as supermarkets, shops, shopping centres and registered online stores, as well as through mercados, ferias, neighbourhood shops, kiosks, fixed or mobile stalls and social-commerce accounts on WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram. Product range and access vary strongly between cities and regions. INE consumer-price coverage includes the nine departmental capitals and El Alto, but it does not describe the full national price landscape. Check the product, size, packaging, serial number, compatibility, Spanish instructions and expiry date where applicable. Ask for the seller’s identity, an invoice or receipt, warranty conditions and the promised delivery or return terms. No general 14-day cancellation period for ordinary purchases was identified in the reviewed Bolivian sources, so a change-of-mind return usually depends on the seller’s policy. A defect, non-conformity or breach of the advertised offer can trigger repair or replacement rights. Ley 453 gives consumers rights to free, timely, complete and truthful information. Suppliers must provide accessible product data, risks, total prices and complaint channels, avoid deceptive or abusive advertising, and deliver what they offered. Exceeding either limit generally requires an import-for-consumption procedure with a customs broker, and some goods require permits or certificates. Keep the commercial invoice, order, payment record and tracking information. Postal duty-free exemptions for non-commercial parcels do not cover commercial internet purchases. For eligible non-commercial postal parcels, the reviewed conditions include a value up to US$100, a package up to 2 kg or EMS up to 20 kg, no prohibited or prior-authorisation goods and compliance with size limits. A non-compliant parcel may incur duties or enter a minor-value process up to FOB US$1,000, with identification, DIMS and QR or bank payment in the postal or customs process. Timing depends on the carrier, customs inspection, permits and destination city. Responsible shopping includes choosing durable, repairable, reusable and low-packaging goods where practical. Waste collection is mainly organised by municipal governments and operators, and access to differentiated recycling varies locally. No nationwide consumer deposit-and-return system was identified in the reviewed sources. Batteries, electronic waste and chemicals need a suitable local collection channel rather than a general bin.
