Romantic relationship in Benin

In Benin, romantic relationships may be described as a romantic relationship, a couple, or a romantic liaison. Getting to know each other, introducing a partner to the families, and engagement (fiançailles) usually follow social and family expectations but do not involve central government registration. A marriage can also be concluded without an engagement. The engagement does not automatically bind the parties; either party may end it, although abusive conduct can raise questions of damages.
