Living in Belarus

Belarus is located in Eastern Europe and borders, among others, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Ukraine. The landlocked country has around 9.5 million people. Broad plains, forests, rivers, lakes and the marshlands of Polesie shape the landscape. The climate is temperate continental: summers are usually warm, while winters are cold and often harsher in the north and east. Many people live in apartments in Minsk and other cities, while detached houses and larger plots of land are common in rural areas. Buses and trains connect the cities; in villages, having a car is often practical. People work in industry, services, agriculture and increasingly in digital professions. Parks, dachas, lakes and visits to family are popular leisure activities in many areas.
