Living in Barbados

Barbados is an island nation in the eastern Caribbean Sea and part of the Lesser Antilles; around 286,641 people live there. The island is mostly flat to gently hilly, with fertile fields, coastlines and coral reefs. The tropical climate brings warm temperatures year-round, a drier period and wetter months with heavier rainfall. Life is denser in and around Bridgetown, with rental apartments, schools, shops and jobs in the service sector. Outside the capital, many people live in single-family homes or smaller settlements. Buses and minibuses connect the different places, while cars and motorcycles are common. People spend their free time by the sea, in clubs or at family celebrations.
