Living in Bangladesh

Bangladesh lies in South Asia on the Bay of Bengal and is shaped by major rivers such as the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna; around 161.4 million people live there. The country is predominantly flat, with fertile floodplains, the Sundarbans mangrove forest and hills in the southeast. The tropical climate brings hot, humid summers, a pronounced rainy season and generally milder winters. Many people live in densely populated cities or rural villages, often in houses made of brick, corrugated metal or concrete. Bicycles, rickshaws, buses and boats are part of everyday life. Industry, trade and services are concentrated in Dhaka and Chittagong, while agriculture and fishing are more important in rural areas.
