Living in Bahrain

Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf, near the east coast of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with around 1.6 million people. The country is predominantly flat and dry; during the long, very hot summer, high temperatures and humid coastal air are typical, while rainfall remains rare. Most people live on the main island in cities such as Manama and Muharraq, in apartments, residential complexes, or detached houses. Cars, taxis, and buses shape daily travel; a causeway connects Bahrain with Saudi Arabia. People work in sectors including services, trade, finance, industry, and energy. In their free time, families and friends meet in cafés, shopping centers, along the coast, or for shared meals. The south and smaller islands are noticeably quieter and less densely populated.
