Apprenticeship in Afghanistan

Vocational education in Afghanistan includes formal, non-formal and informal pathways through which people acquire occupational skills for a particular field of work. The direct functional equivalent is TVET, also known as technical and vocational education and training; short-term courses and the master-apprentice learning model (Ostad-Shagerdi) also exist. Formal programmes last two, three or five years depending on the entry level, while non-formal courses usually last three to twelve months. Access, completion, costs and recognition vary greatly by programme, provider, province and gender.
